Teaching, research evaluation and science communication

Teaching through biological questions and experimental reasoning

I have taught cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, genetics and experimental research in classroom, laboratory and postgraduate settings.

My teaching is organised around biological questions rather than isolated collections of facts. Students are encouraged to move from defining a problem to developing a mechanistic hypothesis, selecting an appropriate experimental strategy, interpreting evidence and recognising the limitations of a conclusion.

For medical and health-science audiences, I connect molecular and cellular mechanisms with inheritance, disease and clinical reasoning.

I have supervised and mentored undergraduate, master’s and doctoral researchers, with emphasis on conceptual clarity, experimental logic, critical interpretation and the development of scientific independence.

Assessment of research quality, feasibility and impact

I serve as an external expert for European Commission research programmes and contribute to the evaluation of competitive research proposals and projects at national and international levels.

My evaluation work considers scientific significance, conceptual and methodological rigour, feasibility, implementation, interdisciplinarity and potential impact.

I also undertake peer review for scientific journals across relevant areas of developmental biology, cell biology, genetics and biomedical research.

Making scientific reasoning accessible

For several years, I worked with SciCo Greece on the design, coordination and delivery of science communication and STEM-engagement initiatives.

This work included science festivals, educational programmes, school-facing activities, science-through-theatre projects, researcher mentoring, public events and European collaborations.

I also contribute to preLights, the preprint-highlighting platform of The Company of Biologists, where researchers present and critically discuss recent work in the biological and biomedical sciences.

Across these activities, my aim is not only to communicate scientific results, but also to make scientific reasoning, experimentation and uncertainty more accessible.
